The activities of the Institute for Policy Alternatives of Montréal are financed by public funding, fees from events, and donations from individuals committed to the goals and aims of the Institute. While IPAM is a not-for-profit organization, it is not a recognized charity so tax receipts are not available.

Volunteers can contribute to the success of the Institute and its activities in numerous ways. When we have events we need volunteers to welcome and coordinate participants, prepare documentation and research, document the event in writing or on social media, publicity for the activities, daycare, offering accommodation for out-of-town visitors, translation/interpretation, and coordination of other volunteers.
